One of the most popular cities in Florida is Venice. It consistently ranks as one of the best places to retire in the country. With its abundance of affordable housing, cultural events and recreational opportunities, more and more people have discovered just what makes Venice such a special place to live.

Hitting the Beach

Known as the "Shark Tooth Capital of the World" for the number of fossilized shark teeth found along its beaches, the city holds an annual Shark's Tooth Festival each year to celebrate this unique fact about the area. Along with this festival, Venice is also a great place for those who love relaxing on the beach. One of the most popular is Caspersen Beach, site of the Shark's Tooth Festival. Located south of Venice Airport, it's the longest stretch of beach in Sarasota County and is beloved due to being very secluded and also retaining its natural state by remaining undeveloped. Along with Caspersen, Nokomis Beach is a great place for families to spend a day fishing, taking a walk or launching a boat into the crystal blue waters.

Shopping and Dining

For those who enjoy a good meal and plenty of opportunities to shop, Venice fits that bill as well. Offering a combination of fine dining and more laid-back places to eat, the city caters to anyone's tastes. One of the most beloved places to grab a meal is Anita's Sand Castle, considered an icon by many residents. Known for its world-famous hotdogs, both residents and those on vacation flock there each and every day. Venice is also well-known for its many downtown shops, which are mostly locally-owned businesses and offer more than the standard fare found in other stores.

Recreation

With its abundant sunshine and warm temperatures, Venice is a great spot to enjoy outdoor recreational activities. Of these, golf is almost always the most popular activity of choice. Some of the best courses include Pelican Pointe Golf and Country Club, Sarasota National Golf Course and Venetian Golf and River Club. For those who would rather spend some time on the waters, Venice offers such activities as fishing charters, kayaking, sailing and scuba diving. Along with these activities, there are also other recreational activities such as the Venice Theatre and the Cabaret of Magic Variety Arts Theater, where families can spend an afternoon or evening catching a local play put on by some of the area's moat talented actors and actresses.

Venice Real Estate

When the time is right to call Venice home, there is plenty of excellent real estate from which to choose. With a number of homes reasonably priced for both families and retirees, the city has become one of the hottest destinations in Florida for those looking for a simpler lifestyle while still enjoying many of the amenities offered by bigger cities. Close-knit neighborhoods, excellent schools and low crime rates all add up to make Venice one of the safest and most enjoyable cities in all of Florida.

With an abundance of natural beauty and splendor, Venice has established itself as a paradise in the Gulf of Mexico. Beautiful beaches, a quaint downtown and much more add up to create an atmosphere that offers retirees a quiet way of life while also offering families and young professionals an abundance of fun and exciting activities.
