Downtown St. Pete Homes & Condos

Downtown St. Petersburg is a bustling metropolis where you’ll love the local vibe. Here you’ll find the quaint feel of the historic homes, mom and pop shops and restaurants, as well as newer construction luxury condos, shopping and restaurants. Sleepy St. Petersburg used to be jokingly referred to as “God’s waiting room”, but now that is hard to imagine, those days are long gone!

St. Petersburg was founded in 1888 by John C. Williams, who purchased the land, and by Peter Demens, who brought the railroad industry into the area. As a part of a coin toss bet, the winner, Demens, named the land after Saint Petersburg, Russia, while Williams opted to name the first hotel built which was named the Detroit Hotel, both named after their home towns respectively. St. Petersburg was incorporated as a town on February 29, 1892 and re-incorporated as a city on June 6, 1903.

The city is often referred to by locals as St. Pete (Not St. Petes! We cringe at that one!) Neighboring St. Pete Beach formally shortened its name in 1994 after a vote by its residents. St. Petersburg is governed by a mayor and city council. Read more about Downtown St. Petersburg, FL

Real Estate in Downtown St. Petersburg, FL

One of the best parts about Downtown St. Pete are the city owned waterfront parks that go on for miles that line Beach Drive Drive, Bayshore Drive and North Shore Dr.  You’ll frequently see joggers, bikers, people out having a picnic or fishing, or just watching the dolphins herd fish against the seawalls in our beautiful parks.  You’ll find tennis courts, volleyball courts, a bay beach, a local pool, softball field and a massive fenced in dog park, to name a few of the perks here. Also over the last few years, St. Pete made an initiative to highlight local artists and now the streets of St. Petersburg have lit up with creativite murals that are full of vibrant colors.

Downtown St. Petersburg offers single family homes in the nearby Old Northeast, as well as several newer rental apartment buildings and condo towers.  From waterfront, to historic to city views, there is something for everyone in Downtown St. Pete.

Two of the most popular streets in downtown include the upscale Beach Drive, where you’ll find lots of restaurants with outdoor seating (many of which are dog-friendly!), shopping, and Central Avenue, where you’ll find a mix of the old with the new – great restaurants, coffee shops, record stores, shops with local jewelry and art, salons and more.

St. Pete is well known for it’s “Keep St. Pete Local” vision.  You won’t find too many chain restaurants here and although the city is growing with more and more new construction – the local vibe is alive and well.  We have local coffee, locally grown food served in our restaurants, local art, local music can be heard at many Central Ave establishments, and we support local businesses – like us!

If you haven’t checked out St. Pete in the last 10 years – when you come back, you are going to find a totally different city that is bursting with energy, growth and local flair.
