8 Signs You Hired a Lazy Realtor

Selling or buying a home can be a stressful experience. The stress can be compounded when you have a lackadaisical Realtor. So, how do you know if your agent is lazy? Here are 8 signs you hired a lazy realtor.

1. Your agent skips your home inspection to watch Judge Judy.

2. You have had 21 showings on your home and haven’t received buyer feedback on any of them.

3. Your Realtor asks you to drive when seeing properties. She forgot to schedule appointments and needs to do that on the way.

4. You are all excited to buy a new home and call superstar Realtor Joe that you see on the bus stop sign for help. Joe’s response is essentially to drive around town to see what neighborhoods you like and then give him a call back later in the week.

5. You schedule an entire weekend to fly into town to scope out your dream vacation condo on the beach.  Upon meeting your Realtor Saturday morning to look at properties, you realize he has only 3 properties scheduled for you to see. He has a tee time at 1:00.

6. You call your listing Realtor once a week for an update.

7. Your agent gives you the listing Realtor’s contact information to schedule the inspections and closing.

8. The one and only photo of your home on MLS is similar to the one below.

I love this photo.
Can we start a contest of the worst photos we can find on the MLS. I have already seen better (or worse) than this one.
Grand prize will be a free photo session with Dwell photographer. Posted on Wednesday, February 20th, 2013 at 2:56pm.
Derrick monroe wrote: HA:-) Funny but sadly many of them are so true. I had one similar to number four the other day where the agent was lazy. He called me and said "I was going to show one of your listings (keep in mind this was a Tuesday) but I just noticed you're having an open house Sunday and its a 25 minute drive for me, do you mind if I just send my clients over, is that ok"? Richard Conover wrote: So good!! I'm relatively new to the business and am used to working very hard for my web and graphic design clients. So I tend to agree there are some very lazy realtors out there that expect big pay cheques for doing damn near next to nothing. Anyway, good to see some self-deprecating realtor humor. I will check back.

It is unfortunate but every industry has their stars and their "sloths"... I am not making excuses believe me ... one of the reasons I delayed getting into the industry was due to the performance surveys I had read ... in those days we were rated just above attorneys ... However - oh you just knew that was coming.. I also believe that many of our customers/clients expect service levels that are unreasonable. Recently I was approached by a woman who was 1) not preapproved 2) had a lease in place until the Fall of 2013 and 3) in her words "just wanted to get an idea of the types of homes in the neighborhood" .... I declined to show her the 5 homes she wanted to see; not only was she insulted but she wrote a Negative review on Zillow. At times me thinks some of our low performance rating is based on real estate professionals saying NO.... As a practitioner who focuses primarily on servicing buyers I can ill afford to act as a Tour Guide. Was I being lazy when I declined to show these properties absolutely not ... My time / knowledge / contract expertise etc. is valuable and if you aren't motivated ... well you know the rest. Posted on Thursday, February 21st, 2013 at 12:05pm.
Marc Rasmussen wrote: Excellent comments everyone. @HeatherLord - I completely agree with you. I say "no" quite a bit to people just looking. We literally had a prospect 2 weeks ago wanting to see property but they were planning on buying in 10 years. Not only that...they had a looooooong list of requirements. Sorry you had a negative Zillow review. That wasn't fair. Posted on Thursday, February 21st, 2013 at 12:24pm.

I can't tell you how many times I've experienced the driving 8 hrs. my extensive list of hopeful prospects to see, and a minimal list of prospective properties with appts. I've had it!!! Posted on Thursday, February 21st, 2013 at 4:08pm.
Anita Clark wrote: The sad part is, it only takes a few lazy agents to give the rest in a community a bad name. Most I know are some of the hardest working people in any business but every now and again Joe "Tee Time" does come along. Enjoyed the list Marc! Posted on Thursday, February 21st, 2013 at 5:03pm.
JR ROD wrote: THIS IS ONE REASOM I GOT OUT OF THE REALTY PROFESSION 20 YEARS AGO. I WAS TIRED OF DOING ALL THE WORK AND WATCHING EVERYONE ELSE MAKE EXCUSES WHY THEY COULD NOT HELP. FROM GOLFING TEE TIMES, TO HAVING TO GO FIX THEIR BOAT, TO IT WAS TOO HOT ETC, ETC....SAD BUT TRUE , THERE ARE MORE LAZY, , WANNA BEE' S , REALTORS , THAN THERE ARE GOOD ONES...EVERYBODY WANTS TO BE A REALTOR AND WORK PART TIME AND GO TO ALL THE PARTIES........GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE GOOD ONES, YOU DESERVE ALL THE PERKS... Kimberly Ann wrote: Shown my homes in areas that were bad.
Arrived late all the time.
Was way too passive in negotiations
The sellers side often wondered why she never returned calls.
Told me the sellers agent hater me and wanted to kill me.
Was a very poor communicator!
Would never step up to the plate.
Was afraid of the sellers agent and our new home was full of garbage and she was told to have it cleaned.
I can't believe she still has a job! Posted on Sunday, August 23rd, 2015 at 5:06pm.
Tom wrote: My realtor listed a photo of my unkept bed with dirty sheets and an unmowed front yard, I just noticed that! They should have forced me to prepare better as I was too busy. Also I thought they would do that for me for a whopping 6% they are charging!!! Posted on Wednesday, February 8th, 2017 at 4:34pm.
Marc Rasmussen wrote: Haha! Our job is to market your home to sell, not mow your yard or clean your house. Posted on Wednesday, February 8th, 2017 at 4:41pm.

Marc Rasmussen wrote: Eleanor,

No reason what-so-ever. The photo I chose was an actual photo from a real home for sale. Black skin, white skin, brown skin or purple skin the photo is funny. This has absolutely nothing to do with skin color. Are you equally offended by the white man with his feet on the desk? If not, why not?
